Biography

At 21 years old, Austrian cellist Tara Stranegger, laureate of six national and international competitions, has already performed across Europe, Asia, and Australia, in addition to appearing a the Ball of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and on the front page of the New York Times. Selected as a member of LGT Young Soloists in 2023, she continues to perform as a soloist and in ensembles around the world. She currently studies in the class of Torleif Thedéen at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, playing a cello by Giovanni Lazzarro (2008).

Biography

Performance

Tara is a prizewinner at the following international competitions: FLAME (Paris), Liezen International Cello Competition, Antonio Janigro, SVIREL, and Euterpe. She also won first prize at the Austrian National Competition for piano, as well as many other junior awards.

She plays regularly with LGT Young Soloists, “one of the finest youth Orchestras in Europe” (Fanfare Magazine), in Europe and abroad. Tara has performed with this award-winning group in fourteen countries in venues including Musikverein in Vienna, Victoria Hall in Singapore, and Mozarteum in Salzburg. As a member of Scandinavian Cello School, she was part of a viral sensation that featured on the front page of the New York Times and most of the world’s press (seen by more than two billion people). She also played with the SCS Ensemble at the Ball of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and was a featured artist at the National Gallery of Denmark (SMK) “Friday Nights at SMK,” performing live on Denmark’s national TV2.


Studies

Following her first cello lessons aged 7, Tara soon was admitted to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz (Junior Program), followed by the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna (MDW – young class of Stefan Kropfitsch). From 2018-2022 Tara received lessons from Jacob Shaw.

She currently studies with Torleif Thedéen at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. She has taken part in masterclasses with Frans Helmerson, Wolfgang Emmanuel Schmidt, Troels Svane, Wen-Sinn Yang, Matias de Oliveira Pinto, Danjulo Ishisaka and Reinhard Latzko.
